【第615期】听歌学美文—Butterfly Kisses

Butterfly Kisses(蝴蝶之吻)是一首父亲为女儿写的歌，Butterfly Kiss是当大人和小孩以脸部亲昵地靠在一同时，其中一人的眼睫毛，随着眼睛的眨动，悄然的刷拂在另外一人的面颊上，或者是两个人额头面对面的凑在一同，双方的睫毛相互刷拂，那种觉得，就似乎是轻柔的蝴蝶在“亲吻”着你。这首歌是美国抒情乡村歌手鲍勃.卡莱欧(Bob Carlisle)在他的女儿十六岁华诞前夕，特别为女儿谱写的。卡莱欧在女儿华诞前夕，忽然惊觉女儿曾经长大，不要再过多久，就行凑合要远走高飞，离家去开创自己的人生。许多甘美的回想，还有自己过去曾经错过、以及未来不会再具有的机遇，都浮往常他脑海，因而他萌发了这首歌的灵感。

这首歌发表于1998年，现已成为美国婚礼上的经典歌曲。

2006年，爱尔兰乐队Westlife在专辑The Love Album里收录了他们翻唱的Butterfly Kisses。

butterfly kisses蝶吻

My newlywed husband said the same thing every morning. “You're beautiful today.”

One glance in the mirror revealed that it was far from the truth.

A skinny girl with mashed hair on one side of her head and no makeup smiled back at me. I could feel my sticky morning breath.

“Liar,” I shot back with a grin.

It was my usual response. My mother's first husband was not a kind man and the harsh words we heard growing up took root. I had trouble seeing myself as someone of value. I had been married two years when I surprised myself. My husband wrapped his arms around me and told me I was beautiful.

“Thank you,” I said.

The same thin girl with the mousy brown hair still stared back at me in the mirror, but somehow the words had finally blossomed in my heart.

A lot of years have passed. My husband has grey in his hair. I'm no longer skinny. Last week I woke up and my husband's face was inches from mine.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

I covered my mouth, trying to hide my morning breath. He reached down and kissed my face.

“What I do every morning,” he said.

He leaves in the early hours of the morning while I sleep. When he left, I rolled over and hugged my pillow. I envisioned the picture of me lightly snoring with my mouth open and giggled.

What a man! My husband understands my past. He's been beside me as I've grown from an unsure young girl to a confident woman, mother, speaker and author.

But I'm not sure that he understands the part he played in that transition. The words I heard growing up pierced my soul, yet his words pierced even deeper.

This Anniversary Day I plan to wake early. I want to tell Richard how much I love him. He may look in the mirror and see an extra pound or two, or wish for the day when his hair was dark and curly, but all I'll see is the man who saw something in me when I couldn't see it myself, and who leaves butterfly kisses, even after twentythree years of marriage.

我的新婚丈夫每天早晨都对我说出同样的话：“你今天真美。”

只需往镜子里一看就能够知道他说的基本不是事实。

镜中的女孩瘦瘦的，乱乱的头发倒向头的一侧，没有化装，正笑容地望着我。我还能感到早晨起来嘴里不大好闻的气息。

“说谎。”我咧着嘴笑，回敬了他一句。

我总是这样回敬我的丈夫。我母亲的第一个丈夫可不是个仁慈的男人，长大过程中我们听到的刺耳的话语也扎根在我心底。我难以把自己看做一个有价值的人。结婚两年后我感到了诧异。我的丈夫双臂拥着我通知我，我长得很美丽。

“谢谢你。”我说。

镜子里面一个同样衰弱，一头灰棕色头发的女孩在盯着我，但是这句话终于在我的心中开花了。

许多年过去了。我的丈夫曾经长出了灰发。我也不再是瘦瘦的小女孩。上周一天清晨我醒来时，丈夫的脸离我只需几英寸。

“你在干什么？”我问。

我捂住嘴，不想让他闻到嘴里的气息。他俯身过来亲吻我的脸。

“做我每天早晨都做的事。”他说。

清晨他常常在我还在熟睡的时分，就得分开家。当他分开后，我在床上翻过身去，抱着枕头。我想象着自己睡觉时悄然打鼾，嘴巴还轻轻张着的样子，不由咯咯笑了。

我的丈夫就是这样一个男人!他了解我的过去。在我从一个不自信的年轻女子变成一个成熟自信的女人、母亲、演讲者、作家的过程中，他不时在我身边。

但是我不确信他能否知道在这一变更过程中他起着怎样的作用。伴我长大的话语曾刺入我的灵魂，但他的话语更是深深地感动了我的灵魂。

今年的结婚周年留念日我打算早点醒来。我要通知理查德我是多么的爱他。照镜子时，他或许会发现又增加了一两磅体重，或者希冀有一天他的头发又是漆黑卷曲的。但是，我所看到的是这样一个男人，是他发现了我身上具备的东西，而我未能发现，是他天天给我留下蝶吻，即便是在结婚23年后。

A box full ofkisses

《装满吻的盒子》

The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy.”

有这样一个故事，爸爸由于三岁的女儿糜费了一卷金色的包装纸而惩罚了她。家里很缺钱，当孩子想要用包装纸装饰一个挂在圣诞树上的盒子时，爸爸生气了。但是，第二天早上小女孩把盒子作为礼物送给了爸爸，“这是给你的，爸爸。”

The man was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found out the box was empty. He yelled at her, stating, "Don't you know, when you give someone a present, there is supposed to be something inside? The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and cried, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty at all. I blew kisses into the box. They're all for you, Daddy."

女儿的这个行为让爸爸感到尴尬。但是当他发现盒子是空的时分，他的怒火再一次熄灭了。他对女儿喊道，“难道你不知道给他人礼物的时分，里面应该放有东西吗？”多女孩抬头看着父亲，眼里含着泪水，“爸爸，盒子不是空的。我把吻放在了盒子里，都是给你的，爸爸。”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness. Only a short time later, an accident took the life of the child. It is also told that her father kept that gold box by his bed for many years and, whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

爸爸感动极了，他搂住女儿，恳请她的原谅。之后不久，一场事故夺走了小女孩的生命。听说，父亲便将那个小金盒子放在床头，不时陪伴着他的余生。无论何时他感到泄气或者遇到难办的事情，他就会翻开礼盒，取出一个假想的吻，记起漂亮女儿给予了自己特殊的爱。

In a very real sense, each one of us, as humans beings, have been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses... from our children, family members, friends, and God. There is simply no other possession, anyone could hold, more precious than this.

从一个十分真实的意义上说，我们每个人都被赠与过一个无形的金色礼盒，那里面装满了来自子女，家人，朋友及上帝无条件的爱与吻。人们所能具有的最可贵的礼物莫过于此了。
